Have you ever found yourself in the centre of Prague around lunchtime, wondering where to eat without falling into the trap of tourist restaurants? We know the feeling – and so we’ve put together a selection of our favourite lunch spots, all with diverse menus, fair prices and a love of quality ingredients. The only thing left is to decide which cuisine you fancy!

For Brazilian

Right by the Old Town Square, you’ll find a hideout from the hustle and bustle outside, and at the same time enjoy the best of Brazilian cuisine. At Brasileiro U Zelené žáby, the concept is "all you can eat", so it depends only on you how much food you indulge in and how long you spend in the restaurant.

The lunch menu is the same as the evening offering – find an extensive salad bar, sushi, shrimp, oysters or octopus, as well as a wide choice of grilled meat, for example pork salsiccia, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, leg of lamb, picanha or filet mignon and, of course, refreshing drinks and desserts.

Until 6 p.m., you can feast at the discounted price of CZK 945 for all you can eat (valid from Monday to Friday, except public holidays). Children under 6 eat for free, and those ages 6-12 years pay half price.

For something lighter

Not one for heavy lunches? Make a beeline for Jungmannova street, where only a year ago Bára Karpíšková opened her much-loved Bjukitchen bistro. At Bjukitchen, you’ll be treated not only to a Scandinavian atmosphere, but also delightful, simple dishes such as porridge, soups or salads. And if you can’t resist a little treat, go for the famous creamy ice cream , the taste of which you will never forget.

Goodlok on Jungmann Square is also the epitome of a healthy lifestyle. Your microbiome will be delighted by the wide selection of fermented beverages , and your taste buds won’t be able to resist the seasonal lunch menu.

For traditional Czech cooking

Roast pork, potato dumplings filled with smoked meat, fried cheese or Dutch schnitzel. For lovers of traditional Czech food, the first choice is Lokál. There are several locations in and around the centre of Prague – Lokál Dlouhaáá is located near the Old Town Square, near the Charles Bridge you can dip into Lokál U Bílé kuželky, Lokál U Jiráta lies a short distance from Wenceslas Square and, of course,  Lokál Korunní in Vinohrady .

At lunchtime, all locations offer a lunch menu consisting of selected Czech main dishes and soups, making this the ideal spot for a quick lunch washed down with a light or dark beer on tap. Those looking for alcohol-free options will appreciate the non-alcoholic Birell on tap, too.

LUNCH FOR ANOTHER

How about helping people in difficult life situations who are unable to afford a hot lunch? In any Prague and Brno Lokál location, Café Savoy, Pizza Nuova, Eska, Myšák and Bufet, you can buy a ‘Lunch for another’ voucher from the staff for 90 CZK, which we will then turn into a lunch card and pass on to one of our partner organisations who help those most in need. You can also purchase the voucher in the e-shops of selected restaurants or
in the Ambiente e-shop.

When you're short on time

What can we say, sometimes a working lunch is a race against time. On those days, it pays to go out for a quick lunch, which you can get on the table (or in your hand) in no time. A safe bet is the Vietnamese bistro Banh–mi–ba in Rybná street . In addition to typical Vietnamese baguettes, you can also order Bún bò Nam Bô, rolls or Bún chả.

Burgers are also a safe bet . In the centre of Prague, we recommend Burger Service in Revoluční street. Expect burgers made from quality ingredients, plus a side of fries with cheddar and bacon or coleslaw.

For Italian

Fan of Italian cuisine? We’ve got good news for you. For a pleasant atmosphere and excellent pasta right in the centre of Prague, head to Pasta Fresca (the name says it all), located in Celetná street. As part of the lunch menu with soup, you can choose from three main dishes . Lunch prices are very reasonable for the city centre, so it’s no wonder that this is a popular spot for locals to grab a quick lunch with colleagues or family.

Sticking with Italian, another option is Pastacaffé, found in the building of the Spanish Synagogue in Vězeňská street. If you’re walking around the Old Town and you get hungry, drop in and try the lunch menu of soup and a choice of three main dishes. If none of them take your fancy, a permanent menu is also available.

For French cuisine

A Viennese café with a menu inspired by French cuisine – that’s Café Savoy, found across the river from the Old Town, near the Újezd tram stop. Well known for opulent breakfasts and their legendary fries with truffle mayo, they’ve also got a weekly menu that you can enjoy at any time of day.

For classic French cuisine, make a visit to Café Louvre, whose doors first opened in 1902. Many years have passed since then, but the establishment has retained its unique spirit to this day, and offers a rich and reasonably-priced lunch menu.

For the atmosphere

For a lunch you won’t be forgetting any time soon, head to La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise on Haštalská street. The tasting menu features seasonal, local produce from trusted farmers, growers, hunters and gatherers, carefully selected by chef Oldřich Sahajdák and his team. You can order the menu separately, or with a wine or non-alcoholic pairing.

Find fresh combinations of ingredients and flavours at Alma, on the corner of V Jirchářích street. A space transformed under the guidance of Petr Židek and Michal Daňek into a cafe, restaurant, bar and wine shop where the relationship between chefs, farmers and seasonal ingredients takes priority. With a lunch menu which changes every week, this is the place to be for anyone into discovering, researching and trying new flavours.

For something special

A four-course evening meal without a fixed menu, combining tradition and creativity and a remarkable atmosphere on Prague's Dlouhá street. We invite you to the Marie B restaurant – the younger sister of the Michelin-starred La Degustation. Here, chef Jiří Šoura serves up a gastronomic experience that combines traditional Czech cuisine, quality ingredients and unmistakable creative flair. The menu varies according to the available ingredients, and four-course lunches and dinners are served à la carte, with individual courses presented to you only once you have finished the previous dish.
